The AD9851 DDS Kits are more suitable for use as a basic Signal Generator, or as a VFO for a Radio project. The AD9954 HF-DDS Kit is more complex, & is suited to building a high performance Radio Receiver or Transceiver project.

    All the Kits & Parts that make up all the DDS Kits are available separately so that you can purchase the Kits & Parts that you require to suit your own project.

AD9851 DDS VFO KIT

The complete DDS VFO Kit uses a number of components to produce a basic PIC Micro controller & DDS VFO that can be used as an accurate signal generator, or as a VFO for a RX or TX project.This Kit is suitable for those that have had some experience with SMD components.

The maximum frequency that can be used is 60MHz as this is a third of the maximum DDS clock frequency for the AD9851 chip. The software allows for a VFO for RX, & a separate VFO for TX that can have the VFO frequencies offset from the displayed frequency. This is useful for receivers or transmitters with an Intermediate Frequency, I/F. So yes it can be used on a receiver that has an eg 9MHz I/F by setting the RX display offset by 9MHz. A number of memory frequencies are also available for programming. The PIC controller is controlled using a rotary encoder & 4x4 keypad.

What the Basic Kit Includes: Everything that is in the picture, but excludes the nuts & bolts Hardware, aluminium chassis, & DC Power socket.

There is now a new Software version DD_Synth Ver2.x that was written to be able to use the same hardware setup as the Sweep Kit & it no longer supports using the original hardware setup that used the control board 1.

AD9851 I/Q DDS KIT

The complete I/Q DDS Kit is ideal as a simple VFO for many SDR Radio projects using switching Mixers, & produces two 90 degree phase shifted I/Q square wave outputs up to 30MHz. This Kit is suitable for those that have had some experience with SMD components.

The maximum frequency that can be produced for the I/Q outputs is 30MHz, & this is a sixth of the maximum DDS clock frequency for the AD9851 chip. The software allows for separate VFO's for RX & TX to offset the frequencies if required, but you would have to be using I/Q mixers for both RX & TX. A number of memory frequencies are also available for programming. The PIC controller is controlled using a rotary encoder & 4x4 keypad.

AD9954 HF-DDS KIT

The complete HF DDS Kit uses a number of Kits to produce a high performance PIC Micro controller& DDS VFO that can be used to build a Radio Receiver or Transceiver. This Kit is considered to be advanced & is not for beginners.

The Software is what makes it all work, & it is based on the Yaesu FT817 Transceiver, & has many of the control functions that are used on this Transceiver. The PIC controller can be either controlled using a rotary encoder & 4x4 keypad, or by using Ham Radio Deluxe with CAT commands through the RS232 interface.

The Software can be configured for various Radio designs including, Zero I/F, conventional I/F or SDR applications.

The Micro controller can be interfaced to an external I/O expander board for switching of external circuitry normally associated with a Radio Transceiver including RX/TX power switching, I/F filters, VFO A/B, Modes, AGC etc.
