EME144 PC Board Description:

This Relay Kit is suitable for switching RF from DC to 3.4GHz, and has a low loss and high 50ohm return loss. The Omron G6Z-1F-A-DC12 Relay is specified for up to 10Watts @ 900MHz, but has been used to reliably switch up to 20Watts FM on 1.2GHz.

We have tested these relays up to 50 Watts FM on both the 2M 144MHz and 70cm 430MHz bands. We were not able to detect any rise in temperature which would be RF loss when operated over long periods in time. These as with all relays should not be hot switched which would reduce the life of the relay contacts.

EME144 KIT Notes:

The Kit is quite straightforward to construct so no notes are supplied. Care should be taken to make sure that the relay is accurately aligned on the board before soldering it into place. The SMA connectors need to be soldered on both sides of the board for the bests grounding and return loss.

  • EME144 Top View
This was the first PCB version that was designed for a 12v Relay, and uses SMA connectors soldered to both sides of the board. An optional diode can be fitted to protect the circuit that switches the Relay.
  • EME144 PC Board
This Version 3 of the board that has a spot to fit a 180ohm resistor to drop +12vdc doen to +5vdc to suit the G6Z-DC5 Relays. An optional 1N4148 diode can be fitted to protect the circuit that switches the Relay.

EME144 Kit Tests:

  • EME144-S21-Through Loss
S21 through loss to the normally connected contact terminated into 50ohms. Through loss is similar to the NO contact when the relay is energized.
  • EME144-S21-Relay-Isolation
S21 relay isolation from the common to normally connected contacts.
  • EME144-Relay-S11-Return-Loss
S11 return loss through the relay from the common to normally connected contact terminated into 50ohms.
