Please refer to the ordering page for the new pricing. Its been a long time but Mini-Kits has finally released the 70cm Preamplifier Kit. The Kit is available in Kit form or fully built. Mini-Kits now offers the full range of Preamplifier Kits fully built. We expect to be able to offer many other Kits fully built in the next few weeks. After many weeks testing low cost relays that could handle up to 100W on UHF, we could not get enough isolation so it was decided to abandon a a RX/TX type preamp Kit for UHF. The small RF relays work well. but only have a maximum power rating of around 20 Watts maximum. The only suitable relays that are redily available that could handle high power & had high isolation, were the Tohutsu coaxial types but at around $50 cost each these would have made the Kit too expensive. The EME107 5/10GHz multiplier Kit has been discontinued due to the high cost to produce more boards, & changes in semiconductor technology. Mini-Kits current direction with new PC boards is that they are to be designed for multipurpose Kit use, which makes new Kits more cost effective to produce. An example is the EME162, & EME173 boards that are used for many Kits & can be used for various other uses. The EME107 multiplier will soon be replaced with a new Kit that uses a universal PC board that can also be used to build various blocks for a 3.4 to 10GHz Transverter. The PC board is currently being finalized so I expect release sometime in August 2010. With the current supply problems of electronic components in Australia & Worldwide, Mini-Kits recently has had to buy up large quantities of older leaded components like moulded coils & trimmer capacitors which have become obsolete. We are currently having problems sourcing leaded ceramic NPO capacitors that we had been buying wholesale from DSE for over 10 years. The only Manufactures that are still producing leaded components, are mainly out of China, but the pack quantities are very high. Most of the big brands are mainly now only manufacturing SMD components, & they have very long lead times on leaded components if they are still available. It could be that we may not be able to get newly manufactured leaded components in 10 years time, so Mini-Kits is planning future Kits with this in mind. The Mini-Kits website was updated some months back to increase the font size to support the smaller IPHONE™screens. The website has been tested this week on the new Apple IPAD™, & all webpages were found to be compatable. There is still however an issue with the IPAD™ not being able to view JPEG2000 compression of most pictures in the downloadable PDF catalogue sections.
CURRENT NEWS 22/4/10 Mini-Kits has many New Kit designs that will be released in the next few months. We have already released over 5 new Kits this years, & the cost is now very high to produce a quality Kit. By the time you design the Kit including the PC board, & then manufacture the boards, stock the required parts, & finish the Kit construction notes, an average Kit can cost a couple thousand dollars before you sell the first one. Mini-Kits invests a large amount of money back into new Kit designs, & re-engineering of older Kits so that we can offer what the customer wants. There are a number of New Kit prototypes that will be ready for release over the next few months including a number of Mitsubishi PA Kits, receive only preamps for 6, 2, & 70cms, & a New transverter design for 3.4 & 5.8GHz. Mini-Kits long term project is a series of high performance Radio building block Kits that can be used to build your very own Receiver or Transceiver.
CURRENT NEWS 29/1/10 Toko have decided to delete their entire range of Helical filters & plastic moulded coils, only a few SMD products remain. Mini-Kits has bought large stocks of existing stock worldwide to enable current products to have a longer life. We have also had many issues sourcing particular common components, & have decided to no longer buy from suppliers that are unable to guarantee the future availability. Mini-Kits has purchased sample crystals from Kristaly in the Czech Republic that should arrive soon for testing. We are hoping that they can make a very high quality & low cost crystal suitable for our local oscillator Kits. This week we have released our awaited HF-DDS Kit that uses the AD9954 DDS. The Software emulates a Yaesu FT817 Radio that makes it usable with Ham Radio Deluxe. We hope to produce many add on Kits including a simple SDR Radio Receiver.
CURRENT NEWS 17/8/09 The Mini-Kits website as been updated this week to allow it to be more easily viewed by new technology using smaller screens. Please let me know by email if you have any issues viewing the website. I expect that most are now using modern browser software & are no longer lost in the past. We have gone back to a basic HTML page with some non critical Java. The AD9851 DDS Kits have now changed to the same hardware as the sweep Kit. This allows us to now use the 4x4 Keypad making it much easier to mount into a box. The software for both Kits are now interchangeable simply by replacing the PIC micro controller.
